This study aimed to analyze risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in urban communities, with a focus on type 2 diabetes, using a case-control study method in Balige City. Through medical data collection and questionnaires, statistical analysis showed that smoking, obesity (expressed by BMI), and suboptimal control of blood sugar levels were significant risk factors for type 2 diabetes. The implication of this study is the importance of developing more effective health policies and evidence-based intervention programs to reduce the burden of NCDs, particularly type 2 diabetes, in urban communities. The findings support efforts to improve smoking prevention programs, healthy lifestyle promotion, and optimal weight management and blood sugar control for individuals with type 2 diabetes.
